|Battlepod, Officer's Zentraedi|
Another Robotech Mecha I grabbed off a garage sale. I was Really surprised to see he was selling the Officer Pod. I never ever seen it around my area for sale when I was a kid. I bought him right away from the guy that was selling his Robotech collection.
Crew: 1 Zentraedi pilot.
Weight: 41.2 tons
Max ground speed: 281 kph
My Original Zentraedi figure has been upgraded to a better Pod since his was damaged during my action figure wars with fire crackers when I was a kid. Still has his original battle damage.
- 1 x single barrel heavy beam cannon mounted on top
- 2 x quadruple-barrelled medium beam cannons mounted in the upper arms
- 2 x single barrel medium cannons (480 rounds) mounted in the lower arms
- 2 x single barrel light cannons (2000 rounds) mounted to the sides of the chin
- 6 x short range 150mm missiles mounted on the flanks of the cockpit
The Officer's Battlepod
Issued to most higher officers in the Zentraedi armed forces, when they are in the field commanding forces of Regult Battlepods. Both in space and on the ground, the Glaug offers its pilots a heavy armament, excellent mobility and adequate protection. Usually, this mecha is coloured in a white/grey scheme, with ochre canopy and feet.
|Now that's a Big Gun!!!|
Even though the Officer's Battle Pod is large and not thickly armoured, its protection is superior compared to that of the standard Battlepod. This is partly because it is thicker, but mostly because the Officer's Battlepod is better at deflecting incoming fire due to its streamlining. It also has a heavy cannon armament, with three beam cannons, including a large, long-range cannon on top, and four smaller projectile weapons in the chin and in the arms. There is a 'last ditch' missile battery with six missiles.
The Officer's Battlepod is both a capable ground fighter and an effective space fighter. In the latter role, its four main engines and numerous smaller engines make it quite nimble. In addition, the mecha can travel short distances under water, usually to and from Zentraedi drop ships. In combat against human mecha, the heavy armament and mobility often offset the lesser Armour.
This Officer Battle Pod was made by Matchbox in 1985.
The package that came with this vehicle has some really nice art. The mecha is mostly light blue with some grayish blue, and red parts. Overall this toy was very loose and clumsy to play with or pose, but it looks awesome. It is for use with the Micronized Zentraedi Warrior action figure. This is incorrect however, because the armour that the warriors would wear while they were piloting battle pods was more like that of the Armoured Zentraedi Warrior, but the 6 inch figure is too large to fit inside the toy.
